times are tough

The kid down the street from us, who is almost the same age as Henry, told him that he has an iPhone. Another friend of Henry's plays with is Nintendo DS like it's crack. What is the choice of entertainment for my six year old? Clear plastic spoons.

He's worn them like this for the past two days. Two spoons as eye protection (sometimes two additional spoons over the ears) and his hands-free flashlight facing the back of his head.

He told me he wants people to think he's a soldier. Or a robot.

I'm pretty certain that he hasn't figured out how to look up the balance of my checking account online, but now I'm starting to suspect him.

Nice. Times are tough here, too. We play with Tupperware. And old coffee cans. ;)

He's got the right idea! That's how I want my kids to play.

it's great to see your son using his imagination! my kids are a little too techy for my tastes.

That's so cool. I showed my little guy and he asked me if we could make one. :)

Well soldier and robot were certainly *my* two first thoughts!

Mad's new favorite toy is a large box she has at Grandma's. She uses it for "fwimming" and bathing her (stuffed) fwiends.

With the title and then the picture, I thought you were going to say this is what your son had to wear for glasses right now...

He should patent that! That is awesome.

An iPhone really?

I have been holding off on the Nintendo DS 1) Because I don't have the extra dosh to pay for it and 2) Because I want my son to use his imagination a bit longer.

He loves drawing and so did I, so I would rather have him hone those skills than his joystick handling skills.

Someone told me, and I don't know if it is true, but kids who use a DS a lot have a harder time learning to hold their pencils because of the tap-tap-tapping motion they get used to on a DS.

I am hoping to fob off MasterSix's requests as long I possibly can! Wish me luck.

Geesh... I'm having a hard enough time convincing my 2 14-year-olds they should be thankful they even have cell phones... talk about starting young.

Love the spoons. Keep him away from the techy toys as long as you can... once you cross over, it's hard to get them back.

Good for you for NOT giving him an ipod or DS.

I intro'd TV to the boys. Not interested and I am very happy for that.

Hoping to follow in YOUR footsteps, w/the geocaching etc. vs. the artificial environment...

It is so good to see a boy with an imagination. My daughter has been out of school for 3 days now and has done nothing but complain she is bored. She needs constant entertainment and I fear she has no imagination of her own. What should I do to make her tap into her creative side???

It seems like kids are getting older much younger these days (who said that or where is it from?)....anyway, you are lucky yours is so creative and imaginative. love it!

I love the things children put together themselves best. JDaniel just washed my car on Sunday. He may be ready for your mini van. He can reach up only about four feet though.
