take that

Henry has seen bits and pieces of the Your Baby Can Read infomercial. The last time he saw it, he looked down sadly at the the floor saying 'I can't even read and I'm not a baby'.

If you could see through my eyes; what you are doing, what you are learning - you would know that you are doing amazing. My Baby Can Read (and write) in Chinese.

Take that.

Screw those silly Your Baby Can Read infomercials.

By the way, does anyone have the number for Rosetta Stone? I have no idea what he's writing about, Momma doesn't read or write in Chinese.

When I hear that commercial I always wonder "Why WOULD you want your BABY to read???".
Seriously, I think that is ridiculous. Let them be babies and children for a while, sheesh.
Henry's drawings are adorable and I love his writing :)

I think it says "look at the trees. the birds live in the trees. they like to fly by the trees."

Now, I hear the Rosetta Stone is a couple hundred dollars..so you know, you could send that my way. Thanks.

I think that baby can read thing is a waste of money anyway. But, wow! That is great that he can read and write in Chinese! And, he can draw pretty well, too. :)

I agree. I hate those commercials. Talk about layering on unrealistic (and unnecessary) expectations. Caleb has been a late reader, too, and he responded similarly. Well, minus the Chinese.

What a sad thing for him to say.
And I have to admit that my kids have all seen those commercials and told me that I need to order them for Emma, because she's the only one that can't read. I went to their website to see what it was, just out of curiosity, and I couldn't get off of it. Everytime you try and exit out another box pops up. That right there tells me that the whole thing is a scam.

I am so glad to hear that he is doing so well in school though!

Aww, poor little guy. He'll learn soon enough and you'll miss the times you spent reading to him. But it is so much fun when they read to you!

I like his writing style! I bet he will be reading in no time. My daughter is starting to pay attention to those types of commercials too..

Can't you stick his beautiful chinese writing in Google translations?

Awesome, woman! I'd love the boys to be trilingual but living in the boonies I can't even find a school that has Spanish or French or German in the Kindergarten set. Waaah.

I love the drawings. U r a proud mama.

BTW I used Rosetta Stone to teach ESL to kids and adults. It is a good program but it isn't what you expect, actually. It is more drills than actual deconstruction.

When my youngest made a similiar comment, I told him that a baby that can read will make a great assistant for him when he is a CEO. I've worked for them for years and not one of them has good spelling or quick reading. They hire people to do that! Just sayn'

That is so funny! I love it! My kids watch Busytown Mysteries and that commercial comes on, along with TURBO SNAKE. Everytime that comes on they yell, "OH NO not Turbo Snake!"

Hey Beth,

I think he just wrote something about birds and trees. Just a wild guess. How are you doing? I'm coming back to the blog. I have a new one...wanna come to the open house (and by the way Wordpress is HARD). :-) How's Minnesota?

What an interesting preception! Those commercials always make me feel badly... like somehow I was a bad mother because my kids didn't turn out to be prodigies or something. Tell Henry he has his own little fan club in the blogosphere and we are all very proud of him!

Thanks for the laughs! People ask us if we're doing YBCR for Mad... uh, no. And my niece is one of the "child" singers (she was 15 or 16 when she and her pal did the recordings), but we're *still* not buying it. As for Mad, she can spell Elmo ("E-M-O, Elmo! Yay!", and knows when to say "ouch" or "burrrp" when we're reading certain books. What else does a girl need?

That last infomercial my 7 y.o saw was for "reducing belly fat"....he was kind emough to remind of that the other day when he saw me changing clothes :(

awww, what a little sweetie. I'm sorry he feels so badly. He's doing a great job, though---I wish my kids could write in English, let alone Chinese!
