"Momma, where go my penny?"
I hear that about 263 times in a day. I never get tired of it.
Only penny sometimes sounds like pa-when-ie and penny refers to all coins.
"Momma, where go my penny?" The second request is louder, more forceful, he might even be standing on his tip-toes, giving me his Grandma Betty mad face.
He carries his penny around inside his fist, he'd prefer to have one in both but he has learned to settle for one.
I reply "I don't know Wu, go look for it?" Thinking inside, those stupid pennies. I find them everywhere; under the couch hanging with the dust bunnies; between the cracks of his high chair, glued onto something that I'm hoping is only ketchup; they have slipped under the rug in the kitchen, sure to be scratching nice, thick grooves into our hardwood floor; and oh yes, those stupid pennies are in the trash can because I can't stand to bend down and pick up one more penny that he has discarded.
Wyatt replies "Oh, OK", like what I have suggested was well, practical - 'go find one' only to have him return two seconds later "I don't see it. Momma, where go my penny?".
Ugg.
"Wu, (forgetting that I'm talking to a 2 year old) you have to be responsible for your 'toys', if you want a penny, go get one."
He rolls on the floor, whines at a decibel only dogs should be allowed to hear and I do what I do best, ignore him.
He soon appears to forget about the penny. I continue to do what I don't do best, clean.
I'm at the sink when he comes back.
"Momma, I've got gum."
What?
He swallows the gum and continues
"Momma, I've got my penny."
I turn around and it registers, that little bugger went downstairs, rummaged though my bag to find my wallet and pulled out a quarter. While he was there, I guess he figured he should nab a piece of gum too.
That little thief. Smart, but still a thief.

don't forget "I go to bed" and lays down right there when we aren't following orders.
I'm thinking if he's that smart, then it's not too early to teach him about responsibility :)
They just keep getting smarter and sneakier, don't they?
My kids and hubby stay out of my purse. Mostly because it is so disorganized that even if they were looking for change (or gum) they wouldn't be able to find it!
I love that! Good thing he doesn't know about twenties.
For a split second you had me nervous that he was going to swallow a penny next! Glad it was just the gum. Nico is always getting into my bag and it drives me insane...and makes me feel a little violated. Oh how I wish I had mastered that parenting skill of ignoring those annoying hogh pitch screams. Maybe someday. I just hope it's soon.
Love that story. Ended differently than I expected though! I thought you were going to say that you, being the clever mother, keep a pocket full of pennies so you can act like a genius and pull one out of your pocket each time he asks where it went.
He'll worship you.
wait, what? Are you complaining about money being littered all over your home and purse and gum to boot! You do know there are people starving in the world don't you ;-)
So funny! And smart!
stopping by from SITS.
what a cute story!!!!
hold on to those moments......they grow up so fast!!!!
He is starting young, already going through your purse. LOL This is just hte beginning. LOL Visiting you from sits, saw you on roll call.

Love your blog!! What a cutie he is!!! I love toddler talk!
I'm here because Uncle Stupid sent me. My husband loves his work and I stopped by there to read some of his favorites and got side tracked to your fantastic blog. I'm a regular reader/contributor to The Mama Bird Diaries, the wonderful writer Kelcey Kintner was also at Blogher. Thanks for great writing!

You make 'em smart.
it's not cool that our kids are actually smarter than us is it?
Never trust a cute kid and a smile. Never.
Hugs and Mocha,
Stesha
Izzy calls her pennies "wishes" because she got to throw them in a fountain.
And, she went upstairs to hubby's table and got some money for the store today!
I can hear it now. My ear drums are bleeding a little just for you. I found an entire stash of acorn lids in one of the booster seat cup holders. WTF? Have a groovy night!

stopping by from sits!!!! Happy Monday!
What is it with kids and coins? My three year old is always robbing my purse for his 'moneys'. And then he puts them in a baggy, or a box, or a sock and carries it everywhere with him.
THAT IS SO CUTE! My 3 year old carries 'MONIES' around.. and just like 'where go my penny'.. i've got.. where my money?
lol too cute
sits friend.

Cute! - I have a 15 year old who knows exactly how to take money from my wallet (once they learn that trick it never stops)! - smart but not that cute!
I never get tired of hearing the same sentence 600 times in a row either. Both the Monkey (who is 5) and Baby Bug (who is 18 months) sometimes get jammed like old records and just say the same thing a thousand times.
Awesomely awesome.
Eventually when they realize Mommy can't do whatever it is they need her to do kids get resourceful. Happy FB day!
Cute blog and cute post. Happy SITS to you. I continue to laugh at the Wal-mart pic post!
So cute. Happy day in the SITS sun :o)
Penny??! Hey, your a Brit like me!!!
Happy SITS day.
LBM x
How funny, "Smart, but still a thief." That makes me laugh. I love how kids talk and think.
What a cute post, I could just picture it.
Stopping by from SITS :)
Cute story! My son is now 7 and has moved on from pennies to dollars. I can't keep money in my wallet for anything.
Cute. They're so sneaky, aren't they? :)
Too cute!
Happy SITS day!
He sure is clever!
Oh no, I would not think going through my purse stealing my money is cute. That is not a habit I would think you'd want him to learn. There's still hope for him because he let you know. He'll get sneakier as he ages, watch out!
Enjoyed my visit to your blog and am now a follower. Happy SITS day!
Happy SITS Day! I have had penny-in-the-car-cd-player children and purse-stealing-money children. They are cute, but infuriating :) Happy SITS spotlight day!
I remember those days...ones to cherish.
And I thought I had the only kid who was practicing for a life in crime!
Happy SITS Day!!
Here from SITS. A very adorable little boy you have who, for now, only want pennies. Wait, you just wait. Where go me credit card?
The kids resourceful, got to give him that. LOL! Visiting from SITS
:-)
so cute....
See he was being responsible and getting his own penny! I have to hang my purse in the closet because my Daughter will come up and ask me if she can have a piece of gum while she is already chewing a piece from my purse. If I say no, then she swallows it. *shakes head* Its hopeless. They will learn no matter how hard we try to stifle it. ;)
Cute! Happy SITS day!
Corbin just refers to everything as money. The gum, though, would have wound up in his hair, I'm sure!
Happy SITS Day!!
Aat least he's not saying "Where go my dollar?"
Stopping in from SITS
That's too funny! I find stupid, stinkin' pennies all over my house too!
LOL.. precious! I like a guy who likes money! :)
Le Gourou
What a good boy! Mine used to eat his pennies. Your little one is adorable:)
You are a very good story teller. And your son is cute.
ALL funny posts! Happy day to you, sitsta!!
Visiting from SITS....thoroughly enjoying my stay at your home, er... blog!

So sweet. I love the little obsessions that make them...them!
Little filcher! Awesome. Husband refuses to go through my purse, but to the girls? It's open territory. Oi!
Happy SITS Day!
What a cutie! Happy SITS day!
My son was the same with pennies...didn't turn out well but I won't share unless you ask...
I have taught my hubby about the monster that lives in the bottom of my purse. He NEVER goes in there for fear of losing a finger. heh heh
Happy SITS day.
That is just too funny, you did tell him to go find one!
He's one smart little boy... :-)
He found one!
I am suprised he doesn't put it in his mouth. My 8 year old at the time swallowed a dime this year. But he was the boy that not once but twice had to go to the doctor for sticking pea gravel from preschool in his ear, then his nose, both times way too stuck to get out on my own. Oh, how I love boys!
What a funny little guy!
My 2 year old daughter does this all the time, She will get in my purse and still my gum. AS for the penny my daughter will ask for "money".
Hmmm, note to self: put locks on my purses. :-)
Destined for a life of crime. Although I give him props for problem solving and developing an effective action plan!
My neices and nephews always go through my purse becuase they know i always have gum of candy in there. LOL That's why I'm the cool aunt!!!
what a cute child
my son does this too. little stinkers.
stopping by from sits, what a funny habit to carry a penny around all day!
Haha!! They are smart at that age, aren't they? It's crazy what they figure out!
He's clearly going to be a treasure trove of funny stories for years to come!
Happy SITS feature day!
well at least he told you he took a gum!
Happy SITS!
Sounds like you've got some darling boys on your hands. Happy FB Day.
My 2 year old ate about 4 pieces of gum from my purse the other day before I caught her! Stinkers! Happy SITS day!
So he chose gum to be his last meal on earth? Boys... again with the gum!
My best, Lynn
That's cute!
Happy SITS day!
Ah, gotta keep your eyes on that one for sure!!
kids...gota love um - so much good material to work with!
The joys of motherhood!
Ha! Smart little bugger, isn't he? Maybe I should try asking my mortgage company, "where go my dollar!"
What a sweetheart! I need to ask that question more!
how funny! haha
Oh the things to look forward to...
When he was little, my son liked to carry things too. He always had something clutched in his grubby little fist. But for him it was always useful things - keys, combs, spoons, a squeegee, etc. My mom used to keep a special container of plastic spoons for him to tote around and he'd go right to it and pick out a spoon for each hand and then happily toddle around with them. What a cute habit! Brings back fond memories.
Cute blog post. Congratulations on being a featured blogger.
Stopping by from SITS
What did you learn? haha
SITS congrats!
See a penny pick it up :)
HA HA, be careful what you tell them!
Happy SITS day!
Cute! My kids have always loved *pennies* and gum. :0)
Lisa
Oh, good luck with this one in a few years, he's smart!
Uh oh. You've got one of those. Good luck!
Haha he's a smart one :)
Happy SITS day!!
What is it with little ones and coins? They figure out so young that it's money that makes the world go round.
He's learning young! I think I was 15 before I started stealing from my mom's purse! :)
Brilliant little things, aren't they?
A mere quarter? Mine has somehow managed to turn her two pennies and one dime into a one and a five dollar bill...
Thieves, all of them! But cute.
Happy SITS Day!
Really cute post. You do an amazing job of bringing life to your stories!!
GOOD STUFF, Sitsa! I love that he got some gum out of the deal, too. He's a smart one. Looking forward to being a regular reader. Happy SITS Day!
LOL..smart indeed.
Happy sits day to ya!
Smart little guy! :)
Haha, what a smart little guy. You'll have to keep a close eye on your wallet from now one. Happy SITS day!
