d-list

So I met Christopher Straub from Project Runway this weekend. I don't know what it is when I meet celebrities, but I lose all my cool. The conversation went something like this:

"Christopher, it's so nice to meet you. I watched the show (I said 'the show' because I totally went blank on the name Project Runway and I almost said Design Star, who I'm sure are arch-enemies) all the time. I was rootin' for ya."

Like he's never heard that before.

And what just came out of my mouth; rootin' and ya?

He was nice though, he asked me my name and told me that he is most well-known for his underwear. (Which I almost got a pair for my husband since I found out he was autographing them that day - but it just felt wrong; to be getting underwear for my husband just for the signature on the darn things and talk about *not* setting the mood, "umm, yes honey, show me where it says Christopher Straub before we go any farther."

You should have seen me with Bob the Bachelor. Remember him?

And here is a picture of me with a Radio City Rockette - being that it's almost Christmas that's close enough to a d-list celebrity, right?

And then there was Katie Couric, when she was still sweet. I know she's higher than the d-list, but this was more like a paparazzi shot, equivalent to the d-list, where there was no chance in heck I was going to be able to actually say 'hello'.

Obviously my brush with celebrities is getting quite long. I need some suggestions on how to keep my cool next time I meet the guy who worked on the set with the stage hand who once said 'hi' to Brad Pit.

  3. Oh my gosh, Amanda, the mom of my BF in Jr. High kissed Davy Jones when she was a teen.

Beth, I'd have to say that as long as you don't plant a wet one on the next celeb you meet you're doing fine.

  4. I think I've seen way more than I've met. It was weird in New York. They are all over the place, if you are looking, but everyone pretty much just leaves them alone.

They're just like everyone else, but they're totally used to people freaking out occasionally. I don't think they'd do what they do if they didn't like it, just a little.

  6. I've never ever 'met' a celebrity - but have seen a few in Vegas before - Howie Mandel at the same club I was partyin' at - Gina Davis walking next to my black jack table - (she's suuuper tall!) but I will say that there have been a couple of occasions when I've been out and about the metro with my buddy Matt Logelin and people walk up to him and it's sort of like he's a celebrity - though he's no Davy Jones!

  7. I haven't really met many celebrities.. but I totally think I would do the same.... if I even realized they were a celebrity in the first place that is :)

  8. Well I can set you up with Jon Bon Jovi, he's my 2nd cousin. And I dated Kevin Costner in college when he was a skinny nerd.

    Trust me...celebs aren't that great.

  11. Would it help if I promised to gush and be goofy if I ever get to meet you?

I adore Project Runway. I so want to meet Heidi Klum and Tim Gunn. I can live without Nina and Michael, tho'.

  12. My dad got Jason Priestly's autograph for me back in the day. But that's the closest I've been to a celebrity. Sad!

  13. I lose all my cool with semi-celebs too. I say the STRANGEST things!

And I did answer your question on Cupcake, but I wanted to let you know here too. Yes, there's a kitchen and it's all ours. The place is like a really big cabin, with all the rooms being OURS. So great.

  16. so much name dropping in this post I don't know where to begin ;-)

I can barely talk to a teacher at VC's school without sounding like a bumbling idiot (did this yesterday) - so to actually meet an actual celebrity (or key grip)- it would not go smoothly.

  19. I'm sorry, have you read any of my encounters with famous people and/or bloggers? I turn into a complete mess. Total dribbly mess.

  20. That's too funny. As a born and bred Southern Californian, I have always considered myself too cool to be excited about celebrities. I mean, I've bumped into Tommy Lasorda a few times when he was managing the Dodgers. One of my best friends played hockey with Luc Robitaille (he was one of the hot new Kings at the time). I remember when Tom and I were first dating... he lived in Chicago and had only been out here once. In my (humble) estimation, he was impressed with my lack of excitement.
One time he was out visiting at the same time one of my oldest friends had to go to court for divorce mediation. In downtown LA. We saw the unattractive guy from NYPD Blue and I couldn't stop tapping Tom's arm and saying something brilliant like, "Look... it's that GUY!"

  21. omG! I just read this and it is hysterical. Rootin 4 ya. Sounds like Sara Palin. Hun you are a riot.

I worked in the entertainment industry for so long, yikes. I've met so many celebs and worked alongside them (in particular, music) that, let me just say they are exactly like us except they have a wierd job and no privacy.

yeah, that about sums it up!

hugs hun. Glad you had fun!!!

    the grey one... stopping by

  22. More than I've met.

Wait, I waited on Jack Nicklaus once. He was nice. (Sadly, I didn't recognize him, but I was told who he was before he left.

  23. Um, celebrities don't come to Utah. Well unless you count Gorge Bush and Dick Chenney coming to Price for a little hunting expidition a few weeks ago. We all hid when we heard Chenney had a shot gun again.

I have never ever met a celeb and I probably never will. So I don't ever have to worry about making a total ass of myself, which I would so do. So I'll count myself lucky.
