baby crack

My baby's addicted to baby crack. Last week, he toddle-ran his way to the rarely accessible bathroom when he realized that it in fact was well, accessible, the door was open. I was diligently brushing the Lucky Charms away from Henry's molars when Wyatt reached his little hand into a drawer, pulled out baby crack/training toothpaste, flipped the top and started to suck. I nabbed it away as soon as I realized that he was actually eating the toothpaste. His reaction; he freaked out, he apparently was hooked.

Today, it was basically the same scenario, me brushing Henry's teeth, door open (forgotten by Henry, yes, I'm blaming him). Wyatt scrambled to the drawer, tried reaching his hand in and screamed his eardrum-breaking-scream (does anyone else have children that do this?) when he realized I was refusing to let him have it. I shooed him out of the room only for him to proceed to bang his head against the door until I picked him up, consoled him a tight bear hug until he was finally able to stop crying.

These are all signs of a 'baby crack' addiction, right?

(oh yeah, I'm totally an enabler as I had to give him the toothpaste for pictures for this post. Second thought, maybe this is a sign of my own addiction to blogging. Addiction runs in the family, I guess.)

  1. Yep, mine does the same thing. Forget actually brushing the teeth, just suck the toothpaste, that's good enough. Around here we refer to Hyland's Teething Tablets as baby crack. Same effect...well...sort of.

  2. Why is it that kids LOVE to eat toothpaste. I truly do not get it.

Ours suck the toothpaste off of the toothbrush before we can brush them. I am thinking I need to start buying baby toothpaste if it truly is that good! :)

  5. We all have our addictions, right? Blogging, toothpaste, whatever floats our boat! I like good n crazy's idea to fill it with applesauce. I wonder what the reaction would be to that? Funny!

  6. There's definitely something in that toothepaste. At four, my daughter still tries to sneak the bottle out of the drawer.

    It takes really good, though.

  9. "Oh yeah", to the head-banging and the toothpaste! In fact, just about anything bathroom related he loves....toiletpaper, showergel(he sucks on the lid), soap(he actually eats it).

  11. Oh see that's what chaps my hide! Have you ever seen Intervention? It's always the parents enabling the habit, tiss, tiss, tiss.

*Why haven't I added you to my blogroll? Oh yes, because you're my arch nemesis! I'll add you anyway.

  18. My girl has an ear-piercing scream, but my sister's boyfriend's son has exactly the kind of eardrum destroying scream you described. My crazy aunt says it means he'll be a good singer. She should know, she pushed all her kids into showbiz!

  20. I caught my 4 year old doing the same thing last month. Had to hide it in a kitchen cupboard! Some people's kids, eh? LOL! Blessings, Whitney

  21. That is too funny. My 2 year old loves her toothpaste, too, but we only put it on the toothbrush. I think she puts the toothbrush in her mouth long enough to suck the paste off.

Have you tried the stuff? It's really not that good!!
